Welcome to the Graduate Program at the Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering!

The Master of Science (MS) degree in mechanical engineering was first awarded at Mississippi State University in 1949. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in mechanical engineering was authorized in 1965 and first awarded in 1968.

As the largest school/department in the Bagley College of Engineering, the Hall School constitutes 22% of the undergraduate and 16% of the graduate students’ population. Currently, we have 134 graduate students enrolled in ME, which includes 37 graduate students in our online programs.

Degree Programs

The Mechanical Engineering program offers graduate study leading to the degrees of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering with a Mechanical Engineering concentration. Both degrees are available via BCoE Learning (online).

The ME Graduate Program is available for qualified graduates with backgrounds in engineering, mechanics, mathematics, physical sciences, and life sciences. The graduate coursework is flexible, and each graduate program is tailored to include course work and research to develop depth and breadth in the student's area of interest.

These research programs, in addition to the graduate coursework, provide the foundation for earning a MS or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering for qualified graduates with backgrounds in engineering, mechanics, mathematics, physical sciences, and life sciences.
