ME Department welcomes three new faculty this Fall

August 19, 2019

The ME department is pleased to welcome Assistant Professor Prashant Singh, Instructor Morgan Green, and Associate Professor Youssef Hammi.

Dr. Prashant Singh joined the ME department at Mississippi State University in Fall 2019. He received his B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (India) in 2012, his M.S. from Arizona State University, Tempe AZ in 2014 and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg VA in 2017, all in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a Post-doctoral associate at the Mechanical Engineering department and the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Sciences (ICTAS) at Virginia Tech from July 2017 to Dec 2017. He joined the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering department at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, as a Research Scholar in January 2018 and continued to work there before joining MSU this fall semester. He has been teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in the area of thermal-fluid science at NC State University, where he also introduced a new course on “Experimental Methods in Heat Transfer” at the graduate level. His research interests lie in the area of thermal and fluid sciences, particularly in the thermal management of systems involving high heat dissipation rates, thermal energy conversion and storage using porous media and phase change materials, bio-inspired heat exchanger design, thermal processes involved in additive manufacturing, nanoscale heat transfer, thermal system design and optimization. He has published 23 international journals and 36 conference papers so far and has received several awards from ASME including the Warren M. Rohsenow award for best paper presentation in the ASME K-14 committee.

Morgan Green received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 2017 and 2019, respectively. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Education at Mississippi State University. Her graduate work focuses on the development of professional skills in undergraduate students. Other work includes developing and integrating classroom practices to better prepare Mechanical Engineering students for a successful career. Ms. Green also is heavily involved in engineering outreach efforts and is the Director of Project ENspire, an engineering outreach program for 4th and 5th grade girls for which she recently received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the President’s Commission on the Status of Women.

Dr. Youssef Hammi joined the Mechanical Engineering Department as an Associate Professor in 2019. Previously, he held positions as an Associate Research Professor and Assistant Research Professor at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), MSU; and as a Visiting Researcher and Postdoctoral Researcher at Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, California. Dr. Hammi received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI, France in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Technology of Troyes (diploma delivered by the University of Technology of Compiègne), France, in 2000. His research interests include, but are not limited to, Computational and Solid Mechanics; Nonlinear Finite Element; Material Modeling (metals, polycrystalline materials, concrete, composites, compaction, sintering, etc.); Metal Forming Processes; Powder Metallurgy (press and sinter); Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL); eXtended Finite Element (XFEM); Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI); Fragmentation; User Material and User Element Development in Abaqus; etc.
